Austin Bass Club Returns to TABC State Tournament
The Austin Bass Club on 10 -11 September is returning to Lake Belton and Lake Stillhouse to defend last years win of the Texas Association of Bass Clubs (TABC) State Tournament. With a combined effort of 4 two man boats the TOP 8 2004 Austin Bass Club Team was able to dominate the field by weighing in a hard earned 37.36 lbs. This may not seam to be very much weight for 8 anglers during two days to win a tournament of this magnitude, but there were only 21 four boat teams that weighed in. Lake Belton is well known about having good days with 20+ lbs in the boat and bad days with out a bite.
This years Austin Bass Club Top 8 Team:
Jake Jakubowsky & Bud Croom
Bobby Landes & Denis Parish
Tim Spencer & Dale Langston
Jimmy Routon & Darrel Routon
This year like last year the team will pay is on way to compete in the TABC Top 8 Tournament to represent The Austin Bass Club. It would be appreciative for the membership to get behind our team with any support, hopes, recommendations, guesses or prayers you have.

Our State tournament team is preparing to defend the Austin Bass club’s TABC state title. Last year’s title was won on Lake Belton but that will be where only half the tournament is this year. In a new format for 2005 Lake Belton will share the weekend with Lake Stillhouse. Each boat will fish each lake for a day and the three best weights for each day will be totaled for a team weight for that given day. It ought to add a new dimension and a little strategy to this year’s contest.
This year’s team consists of Jake Jakubowsky, Bud Croom, Tim Spencer, Dale Langston, Darrel Routon, Jimmy Routon, Denis Parish and Bobby Landes. Let’s wish our guys well and hope that they have a safe and successful trip and bring home consecutive championships.
We had 4 teams fish the August paper draw tournament on Belton. And some of those teams are wondering why they bothered. The intention was to use this tournament as an informational tool for our TABC State tournament team. It doesn’t appear that a whole lot of information was gained except for the fact that a lot of water might have been eliminated. The best source of information was Dale Langston as he smoked everyone by finishing as top individual with 3 fish weighing 5.50 lbs. He teamed with Keith Nichols for a team high 4 fish and 7.25 lbs. and first place. Second place was Tim Spencer and Sean Ramsey who had 2 fish and 3.50 lbs. And that was about it for the tournament as two other teams eliminated a lot of water and zeroed. There was a tie for Big Bass between Dale Langston and Tim Spencer with a 2.00 lb. fish. We had a total of 4 teams catch 6 fish for a total weight of 10.75 lbs. for an average of 1.79 lbs. And that’s all I have to say about that.

1st Dale Langston/Keith Nichols 7.25
2nd Tim Spencer/Sean Ramsey 3.50

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeff Woodard and his family in the loss of Jeff’s son, Barton. It’s hard to fathom the loss of a child and what pain and hurt is brought about by such heartache. Jeff, we love you brother, and pray that you’ll find some peace and solace in the days ahead. We’re here for you.
On another note concerning a longtime member that’s dear to us. Bill Joiner recently found out that he had a malignancy in his kidney and had to have one removed. At last word he was home resting comfortably while awaiting additional tests results. Bill, we love you too brother, and hope and pray that you can recover quickly and get back on your feet and fishing again. Or at least back on your feet soon and taking care of those dogs. Hang in there!
Mark Your Calendars: Meeting September 6th @ 7:30 pm, September 17th Tournament on Lake Buchanan.
