We’re Going Back To Falcoooooon!!!

The Austin Bass club voted to fish a lake it hadn't been to in a number of years, Lake Falcon.  The weekend voted in is January 22nd & 23rd, 2005.  According to recent reports there are already some big fish being caught down there, including a 14.28 caught several weekends ago.  Besides big fish, there are good numbers of fish being caught also.  The club debated going down in February but decided that may be too late to get in on the spawn and decided to go in January instead. It ought to be a good tournament if the weather holds up so get your reservations now if you haven’t done so already.  This should be a great way to kick off the 2005 year.

Club Officers Election

We have a new board heading into the New Year.  It was decided that the Austin Bass club needed some new blood and an unprecedented election took place and it brought about entirely new faces to lead us into 2005.

Mike Shields is volunteering for the Presidency again, for the 47th year I believe.  Thanks, Mike!

We will have some new blood for Vice-President.  Tim Spencer agreed to handle the chores for that office.  It’s always nice to have a newer member take a position.  Welcome aboard, Tim.

Good ol’ Jake Jakubowsky agreed to be the Treasurer agaaaaaaaain.  I don’t know if I can remember when Jake wasn’t Treasurer.  Thank you, sir.

Dwayne Langston will be our new Tournament Director.  Dwayne was very active fishing the tournaments last year and is planning to be doing so again this year and has graciously agreed to take care of that responsibility.  Thank you Mr. Director.

Yours truly was hoooooping someone, anybody, would volunteer to be Secretary, but it didn’t happen.  But there is still time. If anyone out there is interested just let me know.  Please let me know.  I’m not begging but please, please let me know.

If we have no other offers, I will consider being Secretary again.  I guess.  Maybe.

By-laws Accepted

Jake Jakubowsky reviewed the By-laws and the club voted to accept them as they are written.  Changes were made long ago that were never officially voted upon and approved.  Now we have the latest up to date version to abide by entering 2005.

Old New Members

Two old members have rejoined us after being absent for a number of years.  We welcomed back Keith Nichols and Sean Ramsey at the last meeting.  It’s good to have you guys back again, welcome!

Falcon Fun Trip

There’s a small group that can’t wait until our January tournament to get down to Falcon.  They’re going between Christmas and New Year’s for a few days in hopes of catching that “big one” before the year runs out.  If you are interested in going get in touch with Jim Sparks.  If you can’t get a hold of him, it may be because he’s already down there catching ‘em.

Our December tournament was a draw tournament on Lake Austin.  We had 4 1/2 teams brave the cold December morning to fish it.

Strangely enough, every “rider” drew the same person they rode with.  So everybody fished with whom they came.  And I’m sure if every “rider” heard Jake’s pre-fishing report, they all wanted to draw him for their partner.  Bud Croom drew the lucky straw and this tournament was about over before it started.  My partner and I ran into Jake and Bud about 9:00 AM and they already 8 or 9 keepers and they could have quit right then because that weight already had it won.  They ended up with a double limit that weighed 24.30 lbs.

In a distant second place were Bobby Landes and Denis Parish with 6.80 lbs. and 3 keepers.  Third went to Ray Ceder fishing by himself.  He had 3 fish weighing 6.20 lbs.

Jake Jakubowsky captured the Triple Crown honors again with 12.42 lbs. and with a Big Bass of 3.36 lbs.

There were 18 fish caught weighing 41.37 lbs. for an average weight of 2.30 lbs.

Jake had pre-fished the previous weekend and discovered this hole that he fished our tournament on.  Last Sunday he won $700 on it and then went back during the week before our tournament and caught some more nice fish.  It obviously kept restocking itself because it was good for another 24 lbs.  What a hole!  Congratulations Jake and Bud.

Jake Lands a “Big ‘Un”

As if Lake Austin hasn’t been good enough for Jake in the past month he’s hit gold again.  On December 17th Jake landed a 7 pound 8 ounce fish which if official becomes the new weight to beat for the big bass of the year award.  The fish edged out the previous big bass of 7.14 lbs. that Jake caught on Choke Canyon in April.

There is not much time left in the year to top this fish although if it’s going to happen it very well could come from the group going down to Falcon after Christmas.  Congratulations, Jake!
