The Austin Bass Club was founded in September 1960.
March 7th, April 4th (Meetings start at 7:30 pm)
Keith Nichols stepped up and volunteered to be the new Tournament Director. Thank you Keith!
Hey everyone...
You might want to try to make
the March 7th meeting. I have Jacky Roberts the owner of the newly opened
Fish Finders Marine in Round Rock coming by to speak for a moment. He is
the authorized MinnKota and Motorguide service center for the area. He will
be talking about his business, along with giving maintenance tips,
etc. Jacky's a super nice guy and a heck of a fishermen. I think you'll be
glad to have met him ..if you haven't already. He also sells some lures
and tackle and may be bringing some of that. He also may bring along local
lure maker Eddie Pelfrey of Pro Choice Lures. ...if Eddie can make it ...not
sure on that one yet.
From The President
The response to attend the Sam Rayburn tournament next month has been poor at best. After most folks found out that Bass Champs (300+ boats) would be there the same time we are, the cancellations on the hotel rooms started coming in. As of now, we are down to 2 teams. The lady at the hotel wants our rooms assignments by Friday ( my guess is bass champs dudes are looking for rooms) or she will charge Jeff's card for the deposits..... so we need to release the rooms before the next meeting.
So,,,, I'm doing something not in our by-laws, but yet acting only in the best interest of the club, I am now canceling the Sam Rayburn tournament. This was no fast decision, I called all the officers and board of directors and discussed this with them. We all agreed to this decision.
I also heard several options while talking to everyone. Please think about these and come to the next meeting March 7th, to vote a new march lake. Please bring hotel phone numbers with you to the meeting for lakes you vote for. With short notices, hotels might be hard to get. We will just have to hope for the best. It could also be changed to a 1 day. Think about it, see you there.......
Options mentioned:
Falcon - always good, need I say more
Amisted - huge numbers and big fish too lately
Coletto Creek - been very, very good with 5+ pounders
Richland Chambers- probably not crowded with Bass Chumps on Rayburn
Buch/ LBJ (second place vote last month) fishing great in March on both lakes, it's a cheap trip for all, and solves our hotel room problems.
Mike
We had three visitors at the February meeting who wanted to join the club and were subsequently voted in. I would like to welcome Brian Koraska, Marshall Alexander and Jeff Newman to the club and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I have added their information to the membership directory so please remember these guys if you need a partner. As always, contact any officer if you need help finding a partner.
Speaking of new members… Congratulations to Bobby and Yvonne Landes for the new addition to their family. Kylee Nicole Landes was born on February 4th. And she’s a keeper too, 6lb 11oz and 19 inches long. Mother and baby are doing great but Dad may be a bit overwhelmed!
Well, we got to break out the old dry rotted rain slickers for this one! We had light rain for most of the morning with one good 30-45 minute shower at the end. The good news was that it wasn’t too cold. As often is the case, there were mixed reviews at the weigh-in. Mike and I had a good number of bites (30-40) with 7 keepers. We caught a hand full on spinner baits, a hand full on crank baits and the rest on worms. The spinner bait and crank bait fish were shallow (2-5 feet) the worm fish were in 20-25 feet on ledges. We caught most of them in the morning while it was raining. We spun our prop first thing and had to spend the day near the ramp. I guess that was a blessing in disguise. At least we won enough money to get the prop fixed! Here are the tournament results:

Dale Langston took a trip to lake Falcon a few weeks ago just for fun and judging by the pictures he put on the ABC web site I’d say he did just that! He had two fish worth starting out the big bass of the year competition with.
1.) Dale Langston 7.83 Falcon Reservoir (January)
2.) Dale Langston 6.83 Falcon Reservoir (January)
February Tournament
When: February 26th (Sunday)
Where: Choke Canyon
Weigh-in: Calliham boat ramp
Hours: 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM
March Tournament
When: March 25th and 26th
Where: Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Weigh-in: Cassells-Boykin
Hours: TBD
I have reserved all nine rooms at Matties, it used to be Kountry Korner. It’s very close to the Cassells Boykin ramp. Eight of the rooms have two double beds, the ninth room has three double beds on sleeper couch two bath rooms and a poker table. She said they all have cable TV, microwave and a coffee maker. The eight rooms cost $42.50 with tax the ninth room is $74.15. If you want one of the rooms please respond to Mike Shields at gmshields@earthlink.net
He needs to know by February 24th. It’s first come first serve but hopefully the nine rooms will be enough. They have a trailer also but there is someone in it now and they don’t know when they are leaving. If you reserve a room and have to back out you will need to pay any deposit charges that may be incurred. After the 24th we will release any unneeded rooms.
April Tournament
When: April 8th and/or 9th
Where: TBD
Weigh-in: TBD
Hours: TBD
We had some discussion on this but nothing was resolved. One of the ideas mentioned was to have an picnic type event when the weather warms up. If any of you have ideas or comments pass them on, or better yet, come to the March meeting and share them in person.
The TABC State Tournament is set for September 16th and 17th at Richland Chambers.
