January 2006

The Austin Bass Club was founded in September 1960.

2006 Officers: by Jeff Woodard

The first club meeting of 2006 was held on January 3.  There were nine members present (Mike Shields, Bobby Landes, Jake Jakubowsky, Dennis (Big Fish) Parrish, Dale Langston, Chris Bodkin, Darrel Routon, Mike Campasso and Jeff Woodard).  The new officers were elected and are noted in the heading above with the exception of Tournament Director which has not been resolved yet.  Maybe Dwayne will do it again for us. There were two new board members elected, they are Darrel Routon and Chris Bodkins.

I would like to express a sincere thank you to the 2005 officers for all they did for the club and to the 2006 officers for volunteering for those jobs and keeping the club going.  I will do my best to provide you with a good newsletter.  I sure have some big shoes to fill; Bobby has done a great job.  Please feel free to let me know what you think I can do to make a better newsletter.

Club Financial Issues

Some decisions were made regarding club finances.  The club decided not to renew the club’s Post Office box; it just wasn’t being used anymore.  We are going to continue to have Dale manage the club’s website.  He’s done an excellent job and I understand he’s found a cheaper host. (Thank you Dale, maybe ‘Webmaster’ should be an officer positionJ).  Also, the club will start paying for the website instead of Dale out of his own pocket.

It was also decided to award end-of-year patches to the top eight fishermen, versus the top ten as was done last year, along with the top fishermen.  Trophies and plaques will remain the same as last year.

Official 2005 Final Standings

It’s official, Dale is the Top Fisherman for 2005, congratulations Dale.  Bobby put up a good battle but got nipped in the end by Dale’s big fish on Lake Austin. Below are the official final standings for the year 2005.

Banquet

It’s that time of year again.  We need someone to step up and volunteer to coordinate our banquet this year. Bud Croom coordinated it last year and did a fantastic job, thanks Bud.  The job basically consists of making a few phone calls to coordinate the reservation, menu, price, etc. and to make sure that the prizes are bought for ladies raffle. We are also looking for a location for the banquet.  If any of you have suggestions on a location please pass them on, or better yet, come to the February meeting and share them in person.  It would be nice to have a good turnout at the February meeting to resolve these issues. Also, the club voted to spend $100 on gifts for the ladies raffle.

Odds and Ends

Please remember to pay your dues, $20 again this year, as soon as possible. It helps the club avoid checking fees by maintaining the $500 minimum amount in the account.

Also don’t forget TABC dues if you are interested in joining that organization.  The cost is $20 for the year.

If anyone needs a new club, hat Jake has plenty of them.  They cost $7 each.  Even though it’s not a rule anymore it’s still nice to see everyone wearing club id at the tournaments.
