Return of an Old New Members

Well, it’s been so long he seemed like a new member! It was good to see Bill Joiner back after battling cancer at a meeting.

February Tournament

The February 2006 tournament was held at Choke Canyon on Sunday, February 26^th. Most teams seemed to be there on Saturday to do a little pre-fishing. It was cool and rainy most of Saturday but was sunny and breezy on Sunday for the tourney. The fishing was a little slow but some teams had decent success. Be sure to go out to the Austin Bass Club Forum on the website and read the fishing reports. Keith and Sean topped everyone with over 25 lbs, with Keith winning the Triple Crown (Top individual, Big Bass and First Place). Way to go Keith! I’m not worthy! It seems they found a ‘magic’ tree late in the day that they caught most of their good fish out of. They said they used a plastic bait (tube type I think) with a rattle super glued inside and that they had to fish it real slow. Hmm. A number of other fish were caught on spinner baits and flukes. I just have one comment about the weigh-in and that is… that humble pie sure was tasty. I guess I should apologize to my partner for making bets that he has to cover! Sorry Mike!

Official 2005 Big Bass of the Year

We have another entry in the Big Bass of the Year contest. Keith caught a 7.65 during the Choke tournament, good for second place. There might should have been another entry. I heard Jeff Newman caught one over eight but didn’t get a weight slip. Sorry Jeff, I hope you catch a bigger one.

I don’t think the banquet has been totally resolved yet. We are still kicking around the idea of a picnic type event when the weather warms up. If any of you have ideas or comments pass them on.
